Dr. James G. (Jim) Matlock is an American anthropologist and leading reincarnation researcher.

Jim has adopted a comprehensive, multicultural and interdisciplinary approach to reincarnation studies, and has advanced a theory on how it happens, the ‘processual soul theory’.

Jim a Research Fellow with the Parapsychology Foundation, Inc. He received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. His research interests center on phenomena bearing on postmortem survival and reincarnation. Jim has published numerous journal papers and book chapters on these subjects in anthropology and parapsychology and is a regular contributor to the online Psi Encyclopedia.

Jim is the co-author of I Saw a Light and Came Here: Children’s Experiences of Reincarnation and the author of Signs of Reincarnation: Exploring Beliefs, Cases, and Theory.
