After the original Star Wars debuted in cinemas in 1977 to universal acclaim and box office success it inspired a wave of imitators from different studios for years to come. A wave of science fiction and fantasy films would be produced again and again trying to reproduce the achievements of George Lucas‘s masterpiece. Many of them would stumble out of the box office and fail to achieve anything near the success that Luke, Leia, and Han’s gang had. Krull was one of those movies that tried to climb that mountain of Star Wars ascendancy and just couldn’t make it to the top. Krull is the tale of young Prince Colwyn and his quest to rid his planet of a mysterious and powerful creature called The Beast who has kidnapped his bride, invaded his homeland, and massacred its inhabitants. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with PTF regular Yvis Cannivale to chat about how a movie that seemingly had everything going for it (a seasoned director, charming and talented actors, beautiful cinematography, and impressive design and effects) still couldn’t stick the landing when it debuted way back in 1983.
