On this week’s episode of Parenting Roundabout’s entertainment-themed Round 2, Catherine and Terri take a break from all the TV they’ve been watching. Instead, they report on a book and two movies, and (because they can’t stay away from TV for too long) talk about what show to watch next. Here’s your road map: 01:24 The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George – Much like The Storied Life of AJ Fikry, we found this to be a super-book-clubby kind of book, featuring literary prescriptions and even recipes. Terri’s positive it would not be for her, but Catherine found some qualities she liked. Also mentioned: Last month’s book club pick, The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid. 12:50 Thanksgiving Weekend Movies – Terri saw Disney’s Moana, some of Catherine’s family took in Allied, and Catherine hit Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with her Harry-Potter-obsessed son and several other family members. Terri appreciated Moana’s animation magic and Catherine enjoyed the critter magic in Fantastic Beasts. 24:12 New TV – We take a cue from our friends at The West Wing and ask, “What’s next?” now that we’re finished with both Sports Night and Dancing with the Stars. After a spin through several decades worth of series options, we choose a winner: The Great American Baking Show, premiering December 1 on ABC. For next week’s episode, we’ll return to The West Wing with the episode “Noel” and see if the American bakers are worth their sugar and flour. Join us!
