Identity // Where to Start

1. Where did I come from?

Genesis 1:26-27 NIV

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

2. Who am I?

1 Peter 2:7a, 8b-10a NIV

7a But to those who do not believe, 8b they stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10a Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God

3. Why am I here?

Acts 1:6 NIV

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Acts 1:7-8 NIV

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Questions:

1. Have you ever wrestled with your own identity? If so, what elements of your identity seem to be the biggest issue for you personally? Why do you think that is the case?

2. Why does it matter that you are created in God’s image? What does that mean for your life?

3. Can you list what you believe to be parts of your purpose in this season? Are you actively engaged in those? Why or why not?
