The Quechua Collective

The Quechua Collective of New York was created by a committee of like-minded individuals comprised of native Quechua speakers, heritage speakers, and students from the New York area. Their mission is to preserve and diffuse Quechua languages through workshops, cultural events, and educational programming. Millions of people continue to speak this 1000-year-old indigenous language in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and Colombia – and the United States. Some say that Quechua language was born from the musical sounds of nature, such as thunder, running water, wind, and bird calls. For this reason, the Quechua Collective of New York uses expressive culture that engages the senses to celebrate and promote Quechua language and culture. It is their desire to support those Quechua speakers living in NYC and allow the language to be shared with the greater community and generations to come.
