For the second straight year, Pull For Pride co-headed by Breanna Diaz and trans powerlifter JayCee Cooper have put together a scholarship program for LGBTQ athlete seeking aid for their pursuit of strength sports. Training, equipment and competition fees can be an expensive proposition for those seeking to compete in the sport and that often prices out many with potential and many other seeking the physical and emotional health and wellness benefits.
In 2020, the opening year, the scholarship had a $2,000 budget to give grants out. Six athletes were able to get aid, there where more that the group wanted give to,.
In 2021, the scholarship fund grew to over $10,000 in donations, many coming from other grassroots athletes..
The grants were awarded in November to 24 titans of all ages, races, and identities.
Three grant winners, D'Auriel Epiphany, Taylor Selman and Afton Brooks join Karleigh Webb for one of most trans joyful conversations since this podcast became a podcast.
All three are strong, ambitious, queer, and had a lot to say about a lot of subjects especially how sports and fitness bring them that elusive, beautiful trans joy.
