As if to spite their name, the Padres have been hell to watch over the past two decades. But the rise of some of the game's finest young talent coupled with expeditious free agent signings and trades has made the 2021 Padres one of the most sublime teams in the game.
Friend of the pod and San Diego superfan Jono Zalay returns this week to bask in his team's glory...from third place. (Baseball is weird!) Jono has attended one of the Padres/Dodgers games at Petco Park and he can confirm that they've lived up to the enthusiasm I've been describing them with all year. As you'd expect, we dig into the genius of Fernando Tatís Jr. and the underrated brilliance of Jake Cronenworth. But as Jono explains, the arrival of this incredible team has combined with the abandonment of the Chargers to enable the Padres to claim the hearts of San Diegans everywhere.
