As 27 world championships would indicate, the Yankees do some things right. But when it comes to Pride Nights, they're still in a rebuilding effort.
With that in mind, I'm joined on this episode by Yankees blogger Joshua Diemert (Pinstripe Alley) to discuss the Bronx Bombers' efforts to celebrate their LGBTQ fanbase. The Yanks have only been holding Legacy of Pride since 2019 and, as Josh testifies, their lack of experience shows. This year, Yankee broadcasters awkwardly offered up the toothless euphemism "the events at Stonewall" when discussing the riot that kickstarted the Pride movement. We dive into what that means about how the team still can't confront the un-Yankeeish aspects of LGBTQ history and how their approach to Pride is more about checking off a box on their baseball to-do list.
