This week in theconversation.com, a thought-provoking article called "Polarising, sensational media coverage of transgender athletes should end – our research shows a way forward" was front and center, discussing how the press covers the issue inclusion, where they get it wrong and how they can do better.
One of the authors of the scholarly examination is Dr. Jaimie Veale, Senior Lecturer in Psychology; Director, Transgender Health Research Lab, University of Waikato, New Zealand
Dr. Veale has been outspoken in the past, especially as fellow Kiwi Laurel Hubbard was making her run to the Tokyo Olympics.
In the weeks leading up to last year's Summer Olympics, Veale was beamed up to for a deep dive with our house Karleigh Webb on the Hubbard situation, and the greater of issue of how it was covered and how it affected trans communities.
This week's podcast will be a rewind of that interview, provided additional context to the article she co-wrote and bringing a sharp focus into what has been a predominant discussion that has only grown alongside the regulatory and legal actions among sporting governing bodies and society.
