ALERT: We do touch on depression and suicide on this episode, please do not listen if this takes you to a dark place. Please reach out to your countries suicide help lines if you need help. We have an open and honest conversation and if you do listen I hope this benefits you in some way. Trevor Project (USA and Canada) – Our trained counselors are here to support you 24/7. If you are a young person in crisis, feeling suicidal, or in need of a safe and judgment-free place to talk, call the TrevorLifeline now at 1-866-488-7386. Samaritans (UK) – Whatever you’re going through, call us free any time, from any phone, on 116 123. I had an amazing conversation with Brock. Not only was I able to talk hockey for the first time on the podcast but Brock was able to talk a lot about his experience as a closeted gay man in hockey. The common use of derogatory terms for gay people being used in the locker room is one of the things that kept him in the closet for as long as he did even though his parents and brother were loving and accepting before and after he came out. There is a disclaimer here that we do talk about mental health and touch on suicide, if this is something that might cause you issues I highly recommend you do not listen. However, if you can listen, Brock does a great job talking about how he dealt with anxiety, depression and how he hid his sexuality. If you want to reach out and/or follow him on social media, you can follow him here: Instagram : @brockmcgillis33 Twitter : @brock_mcgillis
