I don't know if anyone's pointed it out yet but this year is kinda weird.
And baseball is certainly not immune to the horrors, the strangeness, and the almost violent stupidity of 2020. And since I've used all those words in the first two sentences of the intro, you can probably guess that we're talking about Rob Manfred again. Sigh. 'Twas ever thus.
This week, I'm joined by fellow Outsports maven Brian Bell (LGBT in the Ring) who, as a resident of Portland, is uniquely qualified to react viscerally to the Mariners and A's playing a damn doubleheader in what appeared to be the magma chamber of Mount St. Helens. Sweet jesus, Mr. Commissioner, can't you at least pretend to care about the well being of your players?!
I think we all know the answer to that one.
Brian is also here to mourn his World Series hangover victim Nationals and toast his playoff-bound Rays. I guarantee you that we namecheck more Tampa Bay players on this episode than ESPN has mentioned all year. Maybe all decade.
Finally, because every podcast should end on a note of purest human joy, I take a few minutes to pay tribute to Alec Mills and his incredible and improbable no hitter. Triumphs of the human spirit are cool. Especially in 2020.
