God could have left Israel muddling along with a Law that they couldn’t keep, which was constantly condemning them, and which isolated them from the world—but instead he sent his Son to keep it perfectly on their behalf. God could have left the nations of the world enslaved by their own choices to follow other gods, burdened by abusive rules, excluded from fellowship with the true God and his people—but instead he sent his Son to put those spiritual forces to shame, winning his great victory by dying a shameful death on a cross, and rising from the dead. Because he was raised, those who come to Jesus to be part of his people also have new life—renewed in our spirits now, and in our bodies in the age to come.
