This week on The Authentic Woman, Guest Host Susan Singer interviews a gifted, talented, self-taught photographer and storyteller, Sylvia DeVoss.

Sylvia began life as a Jehovah’s Witness, was kicked out for heresy at age 13, went off the deep end, married, had a child, divorced, spent five months in a mental institution due to a case of mistaken identity, loved women, realized she was gay (yes, in that order), then slowly began her climb back to sanity with the help of friends, art, and her tremendous courage. Sylvia has battled depression that threatened to consume her, but she is now on the other side and celebrating each day. Her artwork conveys her intense love of music, her twin granddaughters, and nature. Her storytelling is the most natural thing about her; it is impossible to talk to Sylvia without getting wound into one of her stories about her fascinating life. This show will take you into the mind of this remarkable woman.

Susan Singer is a rabble-rousing artist, activist, writer, and teacher whose primary desire is to make the world a better place by ending violence against women, helping people find their personal path, creating beauty, and spreading creativity. She uses her artwork to reach deep within herself to find her core and to channel her vision of Spirit to inspire, delight, (and perhaps sometimes provoke!) others.
