Episode 40 – Prison & Sensory Approaches

On this week’s episode, I am in conversation with Gisele Craswell, an Occupational Therapist based in Canada about the use of sensory approaches in prison environment. We discuss the sensory experiences of people in prison and the possible impact on functioning. We also discuss what the evidence says about sensory interventions and mental health, the challenges in providing sensory interventions in prisons and Gisele provides advice for OTs based in prison or forensic units who want to develop a sensory pathway. Gisele states that she is more than happy to answer any questions or have conversations with OTs about this area of practice so if you would like to get in touch, please drop me an email and I will link you up with her. Below are some of the resources Gisele has found useful in informing her practice.

Tina Champagne’s (2011) book “Sensory Modulation & Environment: Essential Elements of Occupation”
