It is a horrible feeling to meet someone and feel like they just dismiss you as being unimportant.  You feel judged and belittled.  You wonder how this person who doesn't even know you can just write you off as meaningless.  Yet we do this so often with Jesus.  In a sermon called "Dismissing Jesus", we look at Matthew 13:53 - 14:12.  In this passage we see the people of Jesus' hometown decide they know better than Jesus and they just dismiss everything else they have learned about him because they have decided he is not that important.  We also see a powerful Roman official called Herod dismiss Jesus out of fear and guilt.  There are lots of reasons we dismiss Jesus, but they all involve the sin of thinking we know better than Jesus!  I pray we are truly challenged to accept Jesus rather than dismiss him.
