In celebration of International Open Access Week, our guest on this episode is Heather Joseph, the Executive Director of SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition). Heather is a United States-based advocate for open access and academic journal publishing reform. SPARC is a global advocacy organization that works to make research and education open and equitable by design—for everyone. Under Heather's stewardship, SPARC has become widely recognized as the leading international force for effective open access policies and practices.

Open Access Week is a global, community-driven week of action to open up access to research that is taking place from October 25-31 this year.  International Open Access Week was established by SPARC and partners in the student community in 2008.
