In Episode 63 I chat with Gavin Dunbar of Glasgow Indie Rock royalty Camera Obscura about lovely crowds, fierce basslines and venues with washing machines

Camera Obsucra were formed in 1996 by lead singer and songwriter Traceyanne Campbell and over the next 10 years established themselves as an integral part of the Glasgow scene along with the likes of Belle and Sebasiten, Arab Strap, Mogwai and Teenage Fanclub.

After the tragic passing of the bands beloved keyboardist Carey Lander in 2015 the band went on hiatus until getting back together as part of the Belle and Sebastien curated cruise festival Boaty Weekender in August 2019 and that fortuitous weekend spurred the band on to start the process of recording their new album Look to the East, Look to the West which after 5 years of work was released just a few weeks ago on May 3rd 2024.

The band has just finished up a short UK tour in support of the new album and when I caught up with Gavin last week he was relaxing before flying out to America to being their North American leg of the tour, which marks the first time the band have played North America in over ten years.

Myself and Gavin had a great chat, we talked all about his feelings about getting the band back together, what it’s like touring after not doing so in ten years, what its like being a British musician in a post Brexit world and the state of the Glasgow scene amongst all sorts of other fun stuff.
