In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Patricia and Arun discuss about Blue Sky Studios' last animation film before Fox was bought by Disney and the shutdown of the company, the 2019 animated film Spies in Disguise. Lance Sterling is the greatest secret agent in the H.T.U.V (Honor, Trust, Unity, and Valor) agency. When he returns from a mission of stealing a suitcase containing a drone from a Japanese arm dealer, it's empty. Security camera footage shows Lance stealing the drone while escaping from a helicopter. Lance tries to claim his innocence, but they don't believe him. He then goes into hiding towards one of the former gadget and weapons builders named Walter when he learns that he can make someone disappear. It turns out that the serum Walter was experimenting on wasn't complete and Lance ends up turning into a pigeon. With his new disguise, he and Walter travel around to find out who is impersonating as him.
When the film premiered in theaters, it made $171 million dollars out of a $100 million dollar budget making it the lowest grossing Blue Sky Studios film ever made. It received mixed to positive reviews from critics praising the animation and the performances of Will Smith and Tom Holland. What did Arun and Patricia think of Blue Sky Studios' swan song...or pigeon song? Listen and find out.
