In this episode, we sit down with Thijiba Sinnathamby as part of a continuation of Off the Tracks’ series, Going Solo. Thijiba is the principal lawyer of TSJ Law, a boutique family law and estate firm in Oakville. Thijiba works extensively with women who have experienced gender based violence. She is also a part-time Staff Lawyer at Luke’s Place and volunteers regularly with the Women’s Centre of Halton. In this conversation, Thijiba tells us about her process of seeking out advice from other female identifying lawyers prior to starting her own firm and how she pays this mentorship forward, the importance of becoming choosier when taking on clients as your practice grows, and her strong belief that there’s room in the legal profession for every solo lawyer to take up space and win.
