We spoke about the book being written in 1905 and in the movie the father goes off to fight in WW1. This is obviously a deviation from the original work as WW1 would not have even started when the book was completed. In the book, the father doesn’t go off to war. She is simply sent from India to England to go to school and while there he father “dies” of jungle fever otherwise known as Malaria.
