Ahead of Thursday’s Drive I caught up with local children’s author Tersha Cutmore for a chat about her debut children’s book “Luca… The Lion Who Couldn’t Eat Meat“. Inspired by her own son Luca, his allergies and their experiences as a family, the story follows Luca the lion as he starts school and begins to really struggle with his feelings and emotions as he watches his friends eat and drink things that he can’t. His friends help him see he is not the only one and encourage him to focus on the positives and look on the bright side of life.

We talked about the message behind the story, Tersha’s experience as a first-time parent understanding and diagnosing allergies, how her son inspired the book, Victoria’s beautiful illustrations and a few top tips for debut writers plus what’s to come in Tersha’s next book.

Luca… The Lion Who Couldn’t Eat Meat is a rhyming, witty and touching story written by Tersha Cutmore and illustrated by Victoria Ward-Fowler. Recommended for age 3+ it’s a must have in any therapeutic/paediatric setting and school or home library, this book is not only for allergy sufferers but for any child who feels different, whatever the reason.
