Have you ever considered pelvic floor physical therapy to support your IBS or PCOS? We’ve talked about pelvic floor PT to support postpartum management on the show before, but today we are focusing on how it can help manage conditions. Today on the show we are welcoming my very own pelvic floor PT, Jenna Sires, to help us learn why we all need to consider our pelvic floor as part of a whole body, holistic approach to wellness. Plus, we talk about common misconceptions about the pelvic floor, including the burning questions, should we be doing kegels or not?!

Jenna Sires received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She began her course work to become a pelvic floor physical therapist in 2011 and has not looked back. She has chosen to specialize in the care of men, women and children experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction.

Jenna is passionate about spreading education to the community on all things related to pelvic health. Jenna is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling, has presented at SCAPTA on numerous occasions, and has had the opportunity to teach at the university level to further educate physical therapy students on a comprehensive approach to evaluating and treating lumbosacral, pelvic, and hip dysfunctions. In her free time you can find her with husband, two beautiful children, and adorable dog.

In this episode we discuss:

How Jenna decided to specialize in pelvic floor therapy. The truth about kegels! Including why they can be potentially harmful. The link between IBS and the pelvic floor, and how pelvic floor dysfunction can impact management of IBS. The link between PCOS and the pelvic floor, and how pelvic floor PT can support management of this hormone condition. How Jenna practices wellness without obsession.
