Elisabeth Fritzl was only 18 years old when her abusive father, Josef Fritzl, lured her into the basement of their family home and locked her in a hidden cellar for years. Telling family and friends that Elisabeth had run away to join a religious cult coupled with a letter Josef forced her to write corroborating that story, sealed Elisabeth's fate. It wasn't until 24 years later that Elisabeth would finally see the light of day once again.
