Coming four years after The Exorcist, Sorcerer arrived in theaters when audiences were shifting their movie appetites from gritty, 70’s ” New Hollywood” cinema to bigger budget blockbusters. Critics even dismissed the film as being “impenetrably obscure” and “remarkably lackluster,” which was an unusal reaction to one of America’s top directors.
