Eric Rubens is a Southern California based photographer who has grown an audience of nearly one million across his social platforms. Growing up on the California coast, he was captivated by color and the energy of the ocean. He formerly played professional tennis and worked as an engineer before dropping it all to pursue his love of travel and photography. Some of his clients include Sony, Disney, Four Seasons, United Airlines, BMW, American Express, Belmond, Callaway Golf, and more. In today’s episode of NorCal and Shill, Eric shares more about his daily life as an artist in this space. He discusses the NFT community, the big shift from past careers to how interactions on Instagram got him into photography. Tweetables:

“Being a former engineer in my past life, before photography, I’m always intrigued when something is on the cutting-edge of technology or [I] see evolutions in the industries that I’m involved in. I’m always trying to push myself to become educated about them.” — @erubes1 [0:06:10]

“Everyone is so accessible and willing to talk to each other and build things together. It’s really cool. In other industries, it would be really hard to get in touch with people like that.” — @erubes1 [0:12:43]

“There’s a lot of opportunities to connect on a deeper level through other senses. It’s those pieces that have a couple more layers to them that are the ones that really hook me and pull me in a little bit deeper.” — @erubes1 [0:19:26]

“Just focus on the relationships first on building actual, genuine relationship that you care about. Then hopefully the sales or any of the other financial stuff will work out how it’s naturally meant to when it’s supposed to happen.” — @erubes1 [0:30:13]
