This week next level physician entrepreneur, best selling author, speaker,  and teen advocate, Dr. Uchenna Umeh, I took the conversation to another level as we conversed about teen suicide, physician suicide, and getting at the root cause of this epidemic.
Highlights from the conversation:
Suicide amongst teens is an epidemic and something must be done. Dr. Uchenna after losing a friend and two patients of hers said “ENOUGH!” and set out to become a voice for teens and medical professionals who are at risk.
I shared my personal brush with suicide, and the loss of several classmates and colleagues along the way.
The darkness that it is to be in that place of wanting to take your own life is like a being on fire.. being in a burning building with only one way out… being in such severe pain that you can’t touch that you just want the pain to stop.
This is why we do what we do… to empower those suffering that there is another way. To empower parents, teacher, professionals that they can also help prevent. To help medical professionals know that they are not alone and that they CAN find freedom, and fulfillment in this life.
Listening is key… validation is key
In moving into a your passion, When you hear the calling, you must obey.
3 is the magic number. The first knock you may just notice and ask “is there a knock”, the second you notice, but may not be ready to assume responsibility, but by the 3rd knock, you know it’s no accident. Answer the knock!
