World affairs are getting so scary, so baffling, that people are grasping for historical parallels. Is it the 1930s all over again? The cataclysmic 1970s or Thatcher / Reagan 1980s? Where are the parallels to tumultuous votes that result in the UK choosing to leave Europe, or – gulp! – President-elect Trump?
