Hello my friends.
Today, we're examining President Biden's Executive Order Reinstating Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians.
You might be thinking, "Beth, this seems awfully niche!" And that is fair. But: I think there are several important reasons to talk about this Order. Here's an incomplete list, in no particular order:
1) It is one example of how reporting on the number of Executive Orders Biden has issued is...incomplete, to put it nicely.
2) It demonstrates what is, in my view, a necessary and appropriate use of Executive authority -- to effectuate policy that has been affirmed by Congress.
3) It matters very, very much to 10,000+ Liberians living in the U.S.
4) It speaks to this administration's comprehensive approach to immigration.
5) And where we'll spend a lot of time today, it provides a stark example of how history continues to play out.
