Hello, my friends. At several listeners’ request, I’m talking today about the Minnesota Supreme Court decision overturning a rape conviction in State of Minnesota vs. Francois Momolu Khalil. Please know that the facts here are very upsetting.
In my view, there are two distinct issues that led to an unjust result (the defendant will receive a new trial): 1) a legislative problem; 2) a charging problem. If you’d like to read the case itself or learn more about the case, I’m listing resources below. Advocates have understood the legislative problem at work here for a long time and are optimistic that Minnesota’s legislature will pass a fix to this loophole on a bipartisan basis.
I spend a minute at the end of this Nightly Nuance with a personal reflection on my experience of attending church for the first time in a long time yesterday.
I’ll be back with you here tomorrow. Have the best available Monday.
