Of all the feasts that the Jews observed in the Old Testament, the Feast of Purim is one not instituted by God. It was initiated by God’s people as an annual reminder of His deliverance from the hand of Haman in the book of Esther. It began nearly 500 years before Christ and is still celebrated today. For the people of Israel, Purim is more than an excuse to gather and feast. It was a time to remember and celebrate the faithfulness of God. As Christ-followers, we too celebrate the faithfulness of God, only we celebrate deliverance from eternal destruction!
