This interview with Ahmed Issa, a 25-year old man from Gaza, was conducted by Madelyn Hoffman, Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate, at the end of a day of fasting for Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifices. We discuss what every day life is like in Gaza and how it compares to 12 years ago. How do young people in Gaza stay optimistic about their lives? How have several recent political decisions and actions such as the U.S. moving its embassy to Jerusalem, the shootings and killings of Palestinians during the Great March for Return, the passage by the Knesset of the new apartheid “nation-state” law and the bombing of the Cultural Center in Gaza City, affected the tension and stress in their lives. Is a more peaceful life possible? How can that be achieved?
