What I'm Regifting

Not only has God given us the greatest gift in the world, He has also given us the privilege and responsibility to share it with everyone around us. His gift is still the answer for a lost and seeking world.

What I Needed Most

God knows what we need whether we do or not. He has provided a gift for us that was highly unexpected and enormously expensive.

What I Got

Over time, we take stock of our lives and discover disappointment. It may be that we didn’t get what we wanted, or maybe we did, but it didn’t give us the peace we expected.

What I Wanted

The mentality we had as kids at Christmas can stay with us into adulthood. We set our hearts and minds on things we are convinced will bring us the happiness we desperately crave.

The Hope of Christmas

Many of us experienced great excitement creating our Christmas list as children. It was our opportunity to create a list of our greatest hopes and dreams each year. What is on your list this year?

Deliverance

There’s nothing more humbling and faith-building than watching God move. Thanking Him in advance for what we know He will do is the key to faith-filled gratitude.

Dead Ends

When our situation becomes impossible, we get to see just how faithful God really is. He will find a way where there is no way.

Your Difficulties

When we face challenges, we learn a lot about ourselves and others. We need this character growth to follow Him well.

God’s Delays

Sometimes it’s hard to be patient and follow God’s timing…especially when we’re excited about something new. The thing about God’s timing is there’s always important growth and preparation happening in the waiting.

Your Decisions

God promises to never leave us. When we make the decision to follow hard after Jesus, He will guide our steps.

God’s Dream

Look around you…everything in the universe is something God dreamed up. As we follow His lead, God puts purposeful and fulfilling dreams in our hearts, too.

Created to Dream

God uses our faith to help us grow as we journey towards the dreams He’s given us. He has incredible plans for us!

Learn and Grow

Hindsight can sometimes feel like our worst enemy because it’s quick to show us where we failed or could have done better. What if we flipped our perspective and used it as a tool to grow and change for the better? We can help each other do that by sharing our lives in community together.

Listen and Learn

Whether we realize it or not, we all use different strategies to manage our lives. We develop “playbooks” that guide our behavior, much like the game of football. When players make mistakes, they have a coach to guide them. We also have a coach, but He is so much more.

Focus and Listen

Every successful athlete knows the importance of conditioning and understanding the fundamentals of their sport. Not only do they help build endurance, but they lay a firm foundation of knowledge of the game. The same is true for us as followers of Christ. The stronger we grow in understanding God’s word and will, the better equipped we are to navigate our lives well.

Elemental

In Element City, fire, water, land, and air residents live together… but very separately. Ember is a spirited and tough young woman from the fire community. She wants to make her father proud but often erupts into anger because of her annoyance with others. Ember’s unlikely friendship with a go-with-the-flow guy from the water community challenges her perceptions. Wade shows her a different way to view people from all walks of life, one that is based on love instead of animosity.

A Man Called Otto

Otto Anderson is a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. He is ready to end it all, but his plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door. Otto is challenged to see life differently, leading to an unlikely friendship that turns his world around. This is a profound story of love, loss, and life…and the importance of community.

The Covenant

During the war in Afghanistan, a local interpreter risks his life to save an American soldier. When the soldier learns the interpreter and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he chooses to repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first. It is a true story of selfless courage and great integrity.

There is no quick way to develop a strong faith. Looking for shortcuts has caused many to shipwreck themselves.

There is No “Set it and Forget it”

A healthy spiritual life needs to be developed, nurtured, and protected to remain strong and healthy.

Learning Other’s Lessons

The Bible gives us the tremendous opportunity to learn from the experience of others.

Don’t Covet

To covet means to desire or long for something that doesn’t belong to you. This commandment targets the heart and mind of each of us, where sin originates. Envy is the love of self rather than love of God and His provision for us.

Don’t Commit Adultery

This one commandment covers a multitude of things: relationships, sexuality, and both physical and emotional sin. When God commands us to not commit adultery, He is protecting our bodies, hearts, and souls.

Tom Eggum

We talk a lot about representing Jesus well. That’s why we work hard as a church to make a difference in the lives of people locally and around the world. This week, we are happy to welcome Tom Eggum to New Hope. Tom is an example for all of us of what it really means to be ‘boots on the ground’, serving in some of the poorest regions of the world. You will be hard-pressed to find someone with such depth of experience like his. It’s even harder to find someone with so much joy and enthusiasm...

Don’t Steal

It’s plain and simple – we are not to take anything that belongs to another person. Property seems the most obvious application here, but it also covers things like stealing another person’s reputation, trust, and dignity.

Tell the Truth

When we lie, we are not reflecting God’s character, which is love and truth. Furthermore, we can cause great damage to the credibility and reputation of others. Lying is self-destructive and dishonors God and the new life we’ve been given.

Do Not Murder

Human life is precious. All people are made in God’s image and deserve respect. Yes, we are broken, but this command makes the welfare of others a responsibility of us all.

Honor Your Parents

We are born with a tendency to test boundaries and break rules. God calls us to show respect and obey our parents and other authorities in our lives. When done correctly, they should be a source of comfort, provision, and safety for us.

Keep the Sabbath

In the story of Creation, God rested on the seventh day. Why is that important to us today? Sabbath isn’t something we’re bound to; it’s a promise we’re invited to enjoy.

Keep God’s Name Holy

Carrying God’s name is a privilege that has great responsibility. Those who know Him need to show God’s nature and character in all we say and do.

Don’t Make Idols

The word ‘idols’ can bring to mind figurines or other types of totems. But an idol is anything we give priority to over God. Things like money, power, relationships, possessions, and popularity can become idols.

Don’t Worship Other Gods

Jesus referred to this as the greatest commandment. We are told to worship Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. This is the starting place.

The Start of Something Better

Many people find meaning in the symbol of the semicolon. It represents not the end but a new beginning. The end of the Easter story is beyond what we want. God gave us what we need through His Son and saved us for all eternity.

Hopes Crushed

Jesus came as our rescue and Savior. How could it be that He would die on that cross? Our hopes and dreams were crushed as God’s plan transpired in the most heartbreaking way.

The Plan Takes Shape

God developed a plan to save us from ourselves, and it would come at a tremendous price. Jesus revealed this plan to His trusted circle, but no one got it.

Same Old Us

Short-sightedness is a trait most of us can claim to some degree. We cry out to God in prayer when things aren’t going our way but soon forget our need for Him when things are better.

Beyond Christmas

In December, we looked at how God did something radically unexpected and new by sending His Son to rescue us. All hope seemed lost when Jesus died on the cross…or was it?

God’s Unfair Economy

God doesn’t keep score, and He doesn’t have a tally sheet. He loves us all, regardless of our story, and He is extravagant in offering grace.

Learning From a Crook

The Bible is clear that all we have is ultimately from God. How we use our time, talent, treasure, and influence, therefore, should be as managers and not owners.

Lost and Found

Jesus made it clear He came to earth on a mission of the utmost importance. It wasn’t to start a new religion. He came to rescue those who were lost and far from God.

The Attitude of True Faith

When we make the decision to follow Jesus, we begin to adopt a new mindset. Our new identity calls us to rely on Jesus and His plan and to put others first.

Evidence of True Faith

Jesus offered forgiveness to all of us without condition when he died on the cross. Our instructions are to love each other and offer the same grace we’ve been given. Forgiveness is a true mark of a follower.

Why is the Church a Mess?

The church is a group of broken people trying to learn more about God and grow into who He wants us to be. We won’t perfect that until we join Him in heaven. Why there isn’t a perfect church? It’s because there are no perfect people.

Can I Trust God?

We will all face a variety of challenges throughout our lives, and we have to choose how we handle them. Jesus shows us God is really good and trustworthy.

Finding Great Treasure

Jesus told two great stories about finding valuable treasure. We’ll see two ways to discover God, and one way to experience Him.
