We touched on some aspects of Dissociative Identity Disorder way back in Episodes 24 & 25, Pathology Chic, July 2017, on how various mental illnesses are portrayed in media and entertainment. Tonight is our first episode specifically dedicated to this condition, by request of one of our followers.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is more commonly known by its outdated names, Multiple Personality Disorder, or Split Personalities. This is a condition that is less common than many people often deal with, but it is still important to understand, because it is far more common than most people believe. When one realizes DID's suspected likely causes are thought to be rooted in childhood trauma and abuse, and that it was often dismissed or derisively painted as a faked condition until the last few decades, one can certainly see the unfortunate potential for overlooking, underestimating, or misdiagnosing, sufferers.

Many of us only know about this pathology through movies and media, so we will also spend a bit of time tonight addressing matters of misinformation.

Tonight, we will discuss:
The History of Dissociative Identity DisorderOur Current Understanding of Dissociative Identity DisorderMyths and Misconceptions about Dissociative Identity DisorderSuggestions for Coping & Mitigating Symptoms.
We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.

Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm EST/EDT. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!
