Welcome to October 18, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate getting a kick out of fashion and great moments in beard history.
Although it’s a year-round staple, when the temperature drops down in the Fall it’s officially legging season. Once a necessity that provided an added layer of warmth, leggings are now part of an iconic style that’s both comfortable and fashionable. Leggings truly set a trend in the 1950’s and ‘60 as a standard workout and wardrobe essential. Over time, breathable materials, textures and designs ushered in the undeniable era of leggings. Modern leggings are a feat of engineering designed to enhance your workout and your dressy side. On International Legging Day, kick up your style with this fashion essential.
At one time Alexander the Great controlled the largest Empire in the world. Legend has it that he also started a custom that lives on to this day. Men shaving their faces. In 331 BC, Alexander lost a key battle against the Persian army. He witnessed the soldiers grabbing his men by their beards, to hold them in place, while stabbing them with a spear. Before they fought the Persian army again, Alexander ordered his troops to shave their beards. They won the next battle and Alexander went on to become one of the most powerful rulers in history. You may find yourself grumbling as you’re shaving for work today, but on National No Beard Day, celebrate the fact that nicking yourself with a razor isn’t as bad as getting poked with a spear.
