The Unapologetic & Dysfunctional Aston Villa Xmas Special 2022 - Part 1

2022 was a certainly a year where speculation and experimentation came to an end. Steven Gerrard started the year with Villa supporters hopeful he could build on a reasonably positive start as Villa boss, but things soon began to head south. Injuries to Gerrard's key new signings didn't help matters, but he was still underperforming with the squad he had at his disposal.

Gerrard and Dean Smith were both employed by Villa's current hierarchy despite having zero experience at the top level of English football. With Gerrard failing fast, it was time for the club to get someone in with unquestionable achievements at the highest level.

In stepped Unai Emery before the World Cup break and there was suddenly hope for the concluding half of the 2022/23 season for Villa.

To look back on a madcap 12 months for Aston Villa football club, the My Old Man Said team have sat down to expand the traditional Unapologetic and Dysfunctional Villa Christmas Special to a three-parter.

In the first, we have a Villa year in a Villa minute, look back at Villa's form in the calendar year and start the count down for the My Old Man Said members TOP 5 Villa players of 2022. We also look at the anti-climax of the year, outstanding contributions, our own personal high and low lights, and lots, lots more.

Parts two and three incoming soon.

Enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our listeners.
