In the first 45 minutes against Chelsea at Villa Park, you thought there might be a chance of salvation for Steven Gerrard, if he could get something from the game. Failure to do so would turn the pressure up to maximum and any games to come would be proverbial must-win games.

But is this more than just a Steven Gerrard problem? Bar a 10-game winning run in the Championship and a play-off final, the club have been a non-entity in English football for far too long. The last decade has been largely depressing for supporters. Do the current owners need to do a hard reset, if they are to have any chance of matching the often advertised ambition and continuous improvement?

We discuss the current situation in depth, as well as catch up with the latest Villa news, Three Points, Media Muppets and Reasons to be Cheerful.
