Tenika Watson was born Johnny Watson on February 22, 1951. She was made famous as the passenger in the 1982 car accident that left R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass handicapped.
She not only survived the transphobic rumor mill that followed press of the accident but recovered from a lifetime of gender and race-based traumas by accepting help, finding self-love, and sharing her story.
Tenika has previously been featured on Oprah and the BBC/Showtime documentary "Teddy Pendergrass: If You Don't Know Me."
