My guest in this episode is Irishman Stephen McNulty.

Stephen grew up near Dungannon where his piano teacher Victor was an early musical influence introducing him to the delights of Marc Bolan, T.Rex and Electric Warrior at a tender age . That early interest in music was cemented on June 22nd, 1992 when Stephen's first real gig involved a trip to Belfast to see Nirvana supported by Teenage Fanclub and The Breeders at The King's Hall. After that there was no turning back.

In 2005 Stephen moved to Australia , initially for a year, but as is so often the case fifteen years later he is not only still there living in a beautiful part of Sydney, with his wife of 10 years Melissa and their two children Finbar (8) and Ailish (5) but they are Australian citizens

In the past guests have tinkered with the format but Stephen came up with a pretty significant change and one that I am happy to say I loved. Stephen does choose a song from each decade of his life, but all his choices are from Australian bands and it absolutely works. Stephen's love of not just Australian music but all music comes across loud and clear and it’s no surprise that the Playlist runs to over 60 songs.

In amongst some great music chat and stories we also touch on some big topics including the troubles in Ireland, Alzheimer's, the environment, treatment of indigenous Australians and the importance of protest songs, so hopefully something for everyone!

You can listen to the Playlist from this episode, which includes Stephen’s selections along with a song from every artist mentioned by cutting and pasting this link into your browser:
