“Elementary, my dear Watson.” I hazard a guess that you are all familiar with that phrase
uttered in almost every film portrayal of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary
creation, Sherlock Holmes. More about that utterance later. What some folks
don’t know about Sir Arthur, is that he was in every sense the alter ego of his
creation, Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle was not only a brilliant spinner of
mystery tales, but he was also an accomplished medical doctor and scientist. He
was an expert in deductive and inductive reasoning, and in a time without
high-tech scientific tools, not even fingerprint analysis, he often helped
Scotland Yard solve baffling crimes. But in the case of Oscar Slater, he was on
the other side of the authorities, advocating for the release of an innocent
man. Why? Elementary! It was the right thing to do!

My guest today is Margarlit Fox, author of, “Conan Doyle for the Defense.” Prior
to writing this book, and others, she worked writing Obits for the New York
Times of the famous and infamous alike.

A perfect guest for Murder Most Foul. Wouldn’t you say?
