This is Part Two of Two of The Woman in Red.
At 5:40am on Thursday 6th May 1948, on the basement steps of 17 Finborough Road in West Brompton, the broken body of 26-year-old part time waitress and prostitute Winifred Mulholland was found.
The Police initially assumed that she had been murdered elsewhere and dumped here, as no killer would be so bold, brazen or bonkers as to dump a murder victim’s body outside of their own home, almost like a grisly calling card or a callous confession to the heinous crime of killing a lone prostitute…
…but as the Police swarmed and the neighbours congregated, along the street every curtain was open, every house-light was on, and every tenant was gossiping ten-to-the-dozen, except one.
