Coaching is the Science to improve one’s performance or to improve people’s lives. The origins of coaching trace back to the 1940’s, but it was only in the 1980’s that the field came to stand on his own.

In the last few years, coaching became pervasive in our society. Originally, used in sports and organizations, coaching is no longer confined to Olympic athletes or top executives of big organizations.

More and more people are coming to understand that in order to live successfully on their own terms, relying on a coach for guidance and feedback is an intelligent strategy

What Exactly is Coaching?

“Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It’s helping them to learn rather than teaching them.”

– Timothy Gallwey

Different Types of coaches:

Fitness coach
Business coach
Spiritual coach
Mindset coach
Financial coach

Benefits of Coaching

You need to have people around you to help you make a significant impact on your overall life satisfaction
You need to be coachable before you can be a great coach and provide an effective approach to goal attainment and personal development on other people
You need to know where you want to be for you to set concrete, measurable goals and break them down into manageable steps
You also have those coaches (are not aware you are coaching them) that you look up to; you follow them, you want to be like them, you watch them from a distance. It is important to accept that you need them in your life to guide you.
You need to be open and accept that you can’t possibly know everything about everything
Do not be stupid; coaching has nothing to do with age, gender or job title
Be open to coaching; identify and take action towards creating change in your life

3 things Gerry Robert shared with JG Francoeur when he started working with him:

Give permission to other people to coach you
Ask for it (feedback/coaching)
Report back the results

Mentor / Coach

Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger than the person being mentored, but he or she must have a certain area of expertise. It is a learning and development partnership between someone with vast experience and someone who wants to learn. A mentor is a higher-level coach.

Some People Resist the Idea to Coaching

They are not willing to let go of (maybe) education. Let go of (pride) that they know better. “I’m not being paid to do this and that”
They don’t understand that they do not know everything. “Even if you do know more, it’s not your place. You’re not writing the checks.” ~Deb Turton
They take it personally. One must understand that commanding is different from coaching

2 things from JG  Francoeur

(How you should word it so that the person you are coaching will not feel bad)

They should not feel bad because they should have given you permission.
You should ask permission to coach (are you open to coaching)
