Will The Silence of the Lambs thrill and chill its way to the 1991 Movie of the Year?

The Silence of the Lambs (1991) was the third film in Academy history to win the "Big Five" Academy Awards for producing, directing, acting, and screenwriting following It Happened One Night (1934) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). So we're dealing with Hollywood divinity here. Despite--or maybe because of??--its gory subject matter, it enjoyed success when it was released and remains popular today.

Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill, Clarice Starling, and all their sundry hijinks have a footprint in pop culture that is far bigger than the viewership of the actual movie. Parodying its scenes became a staple of reference-comedy for years, and is still a go to. Maybe because the movie features so many fun voices to imitate.

The FBI pairs a unique team of a raw cadet—Starling—and an imprisoned serial killer—Lecter—and set them on a task to stop another serial killer—Buffalo Bill—who is skinning women to wear as a suit. Everyone learns about themselves, faces get eaten, and one serial killer is stopped while another is freed to go on vacation and catch up with some old friends.

Nineteen and ninety-one. It was a magical time full of promise and wonder and we have to go back. However, we cannot. We can only move forward. Because we are podcasters, and bravely moving into the future is all we know how to do. All of that, and somehow more, on an all-new Movie of the Year!
