"I would say that individuals born in the second half of the 21 century could live for centuries in quite good health." Professor Michael Rose. Discover the scientific theory behind his hypothesis to banish aging.
The interview: How to banish agingIra Pastor, ideaXme Longevity and Aging ambassador and founder of Bioquark interviews Michael Rose, Distinguished Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology University of California, Irvine and Founder and Chief Scientist Lyceum Pharmaceuticals.
Ira Comments:
In this ideaXme episode, as we continue our journey through the biological architecture of the ageing process, we are going to take an important trip down to the level of the genome. But not to the traditional simplified, static , reductionist genome that the majority of the public is familiar with.
We will talk about a complex genome – one that takes into account that the genome is fluid and highly networked; filled with endless feedback loops and hierarchies of control; where intricate phenomena exist including epistasis, pleiotropy, and alternative splicing; and a genome which is continually interacting with its environment (including the metabolic architecture of the cell, other cells, individuals, species) yielding variations in traits.
Michael Rose is an expert in the science of banishing agingDr. Michael Rose is one of the world’s leading scientists in aging, biological immortality, and human evolution. For the last 40 years his main area of work has been studying biological ageing via the technique of experimental evolution.
He is one of the pre-eminent thinkers behind such complex theories as “the declining forces of natural selection”, antagonistic pleiotropy and mortality-rate plateaus.
He is author of hundreds of research papers, and many books, which focus on banishing aging, including: Evolutionary Biology of Aging
Does Aging Stop?
Methuselah Flies: A Case Study in the Evolution of Aging
The Long Tomorrow: How Advances in Evolutionary Biology Can Help Us Postpone Aging
Darwin's Spectre
As well as a wonderful synthesis of his work at www.55theses.org, he distils down a lifetime of knowledge in a very readable format.
On this ideaXme show to explore the science related to banishing aging Dr. Rose’s background, how he became interested in science, evolutionary biology, and aging. His experience conducting the longest-running longevity experimental evolution, breeding experiment in Fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) producing organisms with 4 times the normal life span, including the topline physiologic findings in terms of organismal fitness, fertility robustness, and resilience, as well as the core “omics” learnings (including genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic): Scientific and actionable dietary and lifestyle interventions from his 55theses. A discussion about the future in terms of “Theses 56” and the development of new biomedical developments based on his knowledge base.Credits: Interview audio, video and text by Ira Pastor, Longevity and Aging ambassador ideaXme and founder of Bioquark.
