The supervising driver of the Uber test bed car, that killed Elaine Hertzberg, has been charged with negligent homicide. A reminder that Uber will not be charged with any wrong doing, in connection with the collision, by the local sheriff’s office. To read more, click the BBC News article here.

PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD FOR STUDENT’S TYRE PARTICLE COLLECTOR

Imperial College London and Royal College of Art students have created a device that will collect tyre particles via the use of electrostatics. The claim is that up to 60% of particulates are collected. To read more, click the Autocar article here.

RIMAC IN TALKS TO BUY BUGATTI

The surprise news that the VW Group is in discussions with Rimac to sell Bugatti off, hit us last week. The question is why? PLUG-IN HYBRID REPORT BLOWS OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE MEANINGFULLY

A report from Transport & Environment and Greenpeace has been picked up and widely reported on, regarding plug-in hybrids and how awful they are. However, once you dig into it and not take it at face value, as we so recently learned that mistake, they themselves undermine their own argument. For example, they talk about ‘official tests’ when they mean the old and no longer used NEDC test. They through in hear-say of how a car operates, as though it is fact, which it may well be but they do not investigate it. They cry foul over how some owners do not use the technology properly as though that is the tech’s fault. As we have pointed out previously, Transport & Environment are very good at getting headlines, yet their detail requires investigating. GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2021 COULD HAPPEN

In a week of unexpected news, we have been told the Geneva Motor Show may happen in 2021. There are a number of packages available to OEMs who wish to show off from one car and an LED TV wall with a maximum of 10 guests, up to 4 cars and 100 guests for the most expensive option. FCA TO REGULATE INSURANCE LOYALTY PENALTY

FORMULA E: CARBON NEUTRAL STATUS GAINED

Formula E has announced that it is officially confirmed as a carbon neutral sport. From inception, one of the aims is to be carbon neutral, which means they need to consider everything about how the races are staged. This is an incredibly impressive achievement. WRC TURKEY

As expected, this brutal event took its toll on those racing. In the end, Elfyn Evans was victorious for Toyota, following one Sunday section where all the other front runners picked up punctures except Evans. Ogier had mechanical difficulties, which culminated in engine failure. Neuville looked set for victory until a puncture put paid to his chance. Loeb who was running up front on Friday also paid the price in the Sunday tyre killing section. M-Sport had another rally to forget. To read about the result, click here for the DirtFish article. Toyota announced it is buying the rally team Tommi Mäkinen has built up and run for the Yaris WRC program.
