Proverbs 1:1-7
Rev. Dan Sung

In the introduction to Proverbs, we see the purpose of wisdom literature -- to teach us and to grow in righteousness, justice, and fairness. As Christians, this pursuit is rooted in what Scripture calls the fear of the Lord: reverence and dependence upon the Lord in all that we do.

Wisdom in the Bible deals with much more than learning facts or remembering information. It is a practice of synthesizing and applying the knowledge of God in our everyday lives. Ultimately, pursuing wisdom is an act of worship, as we gain insight towards righteous living from the True and Living God, who gives us his Spirit of understanding through Jesus.
