In this message, we look at the Old Testament’s strange and challenging story of when God asks Abraham to sacrifice his promised son. In it, we see the primary question of the entire narrative of the Bible embodied in Isaac’s question to his father, Abraham: “Where is the lamb?”
The answer resounds throughout eternity when John the Baptist declares upon seeing Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
Jesus is the true and better Isaac, who not only carried the wood for his sacrifice upon his back up the mountain but became the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation.
