VPD says a man was assaulted just before 1pm on January 1st, near the basketball courts in the park, in the first homicide of the year for Metro Vancouver.

The victim, 62-year old Jesus Cristobal-Esteban, died in hospital yesterday.

Police haven't identified any suspects but believe the suspect had some sort of interaction with Cristobal-Esteban before the assault.
