Chapter 2

SNC-Lavalin and the social-media toxicity

Another day, another turn in the SNC-Lavalin saga. Chapter 3

Foreign Owned Real-Estate

While we had some idea a couple days ago about a report from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation about foreign investment in Vancouver, we now have concrete dollar amounts as well as how we compare to the rest of Canada.

Seventy-five billion dollars. Thatā€™s the amount of real estate in the lower-mainland tied to people offshore, and owners who are not residents. Weā€™ve always known that there was a lot of foreign investment in the city, but these new numbers paint an alarming picture with a far greater discrepancy than previously thought.

Harbour Air has announced plans to add a zero-emission battery powered airplane to its fleet.

This would be the first time ever something like this has been done.

Chapter 5

Crab Park Chowdery Update

Remember rat-gate? The infamous rat found in a bowl of chowder at crab-park chowdery?

This was a polarizing event that pit people against each other. Those who believed the restaurant, and those who believed the video evidence to be a real rat, and not one planted by the photographers.

An inspection report for the Vancouver kitchen at the centre of a viral ā€œrat soupā€ video says the facility was riddled with health code violations, including a ā€œthick accumulation of rodent excrement.ā€ There have also been reports of cockroaches at this facility.

Throughout the course of the interview heā€™s careful not to actually say that the video was false. But says things like ā€˜whether it was real or notā€™.

Chapter 6

Earthquake Preparedness

A recent Star Vancouver story has revealed some startling information for what we might have in store for us were a major earthquake to hit the city.

Weā€™ve been hearing about the big one for years, and years, and years. We are situated in the ring of fire, an area with a lot of volcanic and tectonic activity, and most scientists agree that the big one is inevitable. This investigative report from Star Vancouver suggests that our most precious resource, water, may be scarce in the event of the big one.

Chapter 7

Names and titles: whatā€™s proper?

An old clip from 1990 of the poet and activist Dr. Maya Angelou has resurfaced and gone viral where she takes issue with the way a young woman in the audience addresses herā€¦

So people are split on this issue. Some people say that itā€™s a matter of respect, but some people are saying that her way of thinking is now outdated. Ā

Some people think that when they turn 18, they are on an even playing field with everyone regardless of age.

The young woman in the clip was 20 at the time, and she said at the time she felt very embarrassed because she thought she had offended Dr. Angelou. She is 49 years old now and says that she can see both sides of the debate.
