Chapter 4
Students demand action on climate changeÂ
I was outside of City Hall this morning chatting to some of the participants of the Climate Walk Out. It was pretty quiet at the start, but I spotted a group of young boys who had some signs. Since participants aren’t expected until 1pm, I went up to them and asked them if they were participating in the walk out.Â

Vancouver Park Board votes against injunction to remove homeless campers at Oppenheimer Park
Despite representatives of the City, the Vancouver Police Department, and Vancouver Fire and Rescue arguing it was needed, the Vancouver Park Board has decided against seeking a court injunction to clear out the homeless campers in Oppenheimer Park.
Instead, a majority on the Park Board reaffirmed a previous position seeking a Task Force to solve the problem.
At an emergency meeting on the issue last night, Commissioners John Coupar and Tricia Barker argued in favor of the injunction.
Barker says she understands what the campers are going through - and she joins me now.

U.S. State of Washington bans flavoured vaping products
Just over the border, Washington is joining several other states in banning the sale of flavoured vaping products amid concern over the mysterious lung illness that has sickened hundreds of people and killed more than a dozen across the country.
Gov. Jay Inslee issued an executive order Friday asking the Department of Health to issue the emergency rule at its next meeting, scheduled for Oct. 9. The ban will apply to products containing nicotine as well as the cannabis extract THC. Inslee said the flavoured products especially appeal to youth.
The Trump administration has announced plans to ban flavoured vaping products nationally, and New York, Michigan and Rhode Island are among the states instituting at least temporary bans. Massachusetts has gone the farthest, issuing a four-month ban on all vaping products.
Governor Inslee spoke to reporters in the last hour.

Where We Live: Finn SloughÂ
There are a lot of cool places in the lower mainland but one of the coolest things about some of those cool places, is that you can still be in the city and feel like you have left it. In the south of Richmond, there is a place that the world has almost forgotten about. It's called Finn Slough, and it is glorious.
