Navy vets boycotting Victoria over Remembrance Day spending flap

Victoria councillor Ben Isitt made news last week when he put forward a motion to make the military — not Victoria city hall — pay for Remembrance Day celebrations in his city.

Now, in response to Isitt’s motions, a group of Navy veterans celebrating their 50th anniversary reunion have decided to boycott the city of Victoria.

Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau says the RCMP will be getting an additional $10 million.

The funding is in addition to about $160 million that was set aside in the federal budget, to understand how money laundering is happening in the country.

Is the tax burden in Canada too high, too low, or just about right?

Tomorrow is being hailed as "Tax Freedom Day" by the Fraser Institute think-tank.

What they've done here is they've tallied all the tax you pay - and have worked out that if you paid all your tax upfront on an average income, then tomorrow is the day that you'd have cleared all your tax bills and would start earning for yourself.

We’re almost half-way through the year, though… so does this mean that the tax burden is simply too high here in Canada? Is there a better way to balance the tax burden for workers?

The Falcon 9 rocket took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and a few minutes after takeoff, SpaceX confirmed in a tweet that the first stage landed successfully on a landing pad northwest of Los Angeles.

Canadian municipalities are being hit by cyber attacks - here’s why that’s important

We talk a lot about cyber crime, and cyber attacks, and when we do, we usually talk about how it could hurt you and your personal data.

But now imagine cyber hackers tried to bring down the systems and services of an entire town or city?

This is actually happening to various extents. And one of the latest Canadian municipalities to be targeted is the City of Stratford in Ontario.

This past April, the city’s servers got hijacked in what police described as a ransomware attack.

So what happens when a city gets caught up in something like this? And what are the hackers looking for?
